Obelisk sc1 slim
Obelisk Sc1 Slim is a bitcoin miner from Obelisk’s second generation. It has a bespoke ASIC chip that uses 28nm technology and is used to mine Siacoin. It uses the Blake2B and Blake2B-Sia algorithms to create Siacoin, Sia Classic, and Space Cash. Sia is a cryptocurrency that allows any machine running it to’rent out’ unused hard drive space to other users. Sia, dubbed the “Airbnb for hard drives,” is similar to cloud storage systems like Google and Amazon, except instead of storing data, it allows users to rent hard drives. Its users are reliant on software and a global network of computers.
This feature provides Sia with high capabilities such as constant periods, similar to the Bitcoin Network (since it is not reliant on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that can go down without warning).
Obelisk Slim’s Background
The SC1 Slim ASIC device is made by the Obelisk Tech team. They built miners for their cryptocurrency, Siacoin, and Decred, and were founded by numerous members of the Siacoin development team (and eventually developed a GRIN ASIC miner). Bitmain and Innosilicon were first to market with their Antminer A3 and Innosilicon S11 Siacoin miners, respectively. When Obelisk was ready to release their wares, they performed a hard fork on their Siacoin SC blockchain, invalidating all existing ASIC miners.
